Prop firm challenge
Follow a prop firm challenge on Overview: loss limits used, progress to the profit target, trading days and the best-day rule.
Turn on Prop firm challenge in an account's SL/TP & Sentinel Guard tab, under the drawdown guard. The account then shows in the Prop rules card on Overview.
The settings
- Fill in from a firm: FTMO, FundedNext (Stellar 2-Step) or Topstep (50K Combine) fill in the target, days, best-day rule and the drawdown guard's limits with that firm's typical rules. Firms change their rules, so check yours.
- Phase: Challenge (phase 1), Verification (phase 2), Phase 3, Funded or Custom. A funded account has no target. Choose Custom for anything else, such as a fourth phase or an instant-funding evaluation, and give it a name; it shows on the Prop rules card. The firm presets have no values for Phase 3 or Custom: they fill in the firm's loss limits, and you enter the target, days and best-day rule. A target of 0 means no target.
- Challenge started on: the day the challenge began. Today by default; see below for a challenge already under way.
- Challenge starting balance: what the target and loss limits are measured from. It is the same as the account's Starting balance on the General tab. The form says whether your broker reported it; if not, check it's right.
- Profit target (%): of the phase's starting balance. The form shows it in dollars.
- Minimum trading days: days with at least one trade. A day runs from 22:00 UTC, like the drawdown guard's.
- Best-day rule (%): no single day may be more than this share of the phase's profit. 0 turns it off.
- When the target is reached: notify me and keep copying (default), notify me and stop copying new trades, or notify me, close open positions and stop.
The loss limits are the drawdown guard's own. Turn the guard on to have them enforced; the card shows them only when it is on. See Drawdown guard.
Adding an account part-way through a challenge
Set Challenge started on to the day the challenge began. LucianAlgo then reads the account's trade history from that day:
- trading days and the best day count from then;
- a trailing loss limit starts from the highest balance reached so far, not today's.
Check the Challenge starting balance too: profit already made only counts if it's the balance the challenge started with.
A loss limit hit before you added the account can't be seen, so your firm's dashboard is the final word on whether the challenge is still running.
Starting a new phase
Tick Start a new phase when I save when you move on to the next phase or a new account. The starting balance, trading days and target start again from that moment. Changing the phase does this by itself, and moves Challenge started on to today.
The tick also clears a failed or target-reached status, so the account copies trades again. Use it only when the firm has really given you a new phase or a new account: an ordinary save keeps the phase's record, so a failed challenge stays failed.
Saving the account for any other reason keeps the phase's record.
What the Prop rules card shows
For each account:
- Daily loss: how much of today's limit is used.
- Max loss: how much room is left before the overall limit. Trailing limits say so.
- Target: closed profit against the target. A faint extension shows open profit or loss, so you can see where you would be if you closed now. Only closed trades count toward the target.
- A status line: trading days, what is left to the target, and the best-day share when that rule is on.
Bars turn amber at 70% of a loss limit and red at 90%.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| In progress | Working toward the target. |
| Target reached | The target is met but a rule is not yet, for example "1 more trading day needed". |
| Passed | The target and every rule are met. |
| Failed | A loss limit was hit during the phase. It stays until you start a new phase. |
In the Accounts table, a dot next to the account number shows the same at a glance: green, amber, red, or gold for passed.
When the target is reached
You get a notification and an email. With "stop copying" or "close", the account takes no new trades until you start a new phase.
