When the master trade has no stop loss
Risk Percent needs a stop to size from. Choose what a slave does when the master trade has none.
Risk Percent sizes a copy from the distance to its stop loss. When the master trade has no stop, and the slave has no custom stop of its own, the slave follows the settings below. You find them in the slave's Lot Sizing & Risk tab when the rule is Risk Percent.
1. Wait for the master's stop
Many traders add the stop a second or two after entry. Wait for the master's stop holds the copy for up to 5 seconds (2 by default). The copy opens as soon as the stop arrives and is sized from it. Set it to 0 to never wait.
If the master trade closes during the wait, it is not copied.
2. If no stop arrives
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Scale the master's lot by equity (default) | The master's lot times your equity divided by the master's. |
| Use my own stop | You set a stop in pips. The copy is sized from it and opens with that stop. |
| Open at the minimum lot | The smallest size, to limit exposure. |
| Don't copy the trade | The trade is skipped. The reason appears in Execution Errors. |
3. Close at the risk limit
Close a copy without a stop when its loss reaches the risk % is on by default. A copy that has no stop is closed once its loss reaches your risk amount, for example $100 on a $10,000 account at 1%. If the copy gets a stop later, it is left alone.
When this happens it shows in Execution Errors as "Risk limit close".
Does this affect other sizing rules?
No. Fixed Multiplier, Fixed Lot and Scale by Equity do not need a stop loss.
